Solirius Reply: DevOps Hack Day

At Solirius Reply, the DevOps capability initiated a fantastic challenge — one that would allow its engineers to exhibit their wit and guile in producing competitive solutions to the modern challenges companies face as technology and business requirements advance. The senior engineers drew up a list of solutions covering the many areas that DevOps can support and enhance. Engineers then independently picked which solution they wanted to commit to and implement, and were encouraged to pick more than one if they wished. Teams were established, and a date was set for the climactic event at which each team would start developing their solutions and ultimately test them to see whether they were productive.
The teams began to trickle in, in need of coffee and success, and with no delay the hackday commenced. It was a collaborative effort — everyone was helping each other regardless of which team they were in — and this created a fantastic environment in which results were already taking shape. I imagine you're beginning to wonder what these solutions were. They covered a multitude of areas that we believe to be the new pain points for companies working in a tech world that is evolving at such a rapid pace.
Here is a brief summary of a few:
Modern Data Pipeline Starter Kit — With data engineering now a crucial area for both business and AI, a rapid start-up pipeline kit would give a business the advantage of putting its data to work immediately, surfacing the key insights that could give it the edge.
The 'Omni-Cloud' Web App Template — Speed and efficiency can make all the difference in getting an application into production. This solution would provide the ability to expedite the entire process and move to production faster.
Golden Path CI/CD & Env Accelerator — Here the aim is an out-of-the-box solution that delivers the ultimate developer experience, enabling clients to have quicker release cycles with baked-in security while ensuring massive cloud savings on test environments.
These are only a few of the solutions the teams have been working on, and there are more that cover niche areas. The teams worked throughout the day and then provided updates on this first stage, before some well-earned sustenance and networking rounded off a hard day's work. As previously mentioned, this was just the first phase of the hackday. Another day has been pencilled in, and we are excited to share the outcomes. Stay tuned for more from DevOps at Reply Solirius.
